Colorbond colours

Deep OceanBold blue, with one coastal quirk.

Deep Ocean is a strong, deep blue, the boldest blue in the Colorbond core range. BlueScope suggests it for Queenslanders and coastal homes, often with white trims. Know one quirk before you fall for it near the beach: it's made in Superdura Stainless for homes right by the surf, but it isn't on the Ultra list for homes 100 to 200 m back.

What does Deep Ocean look like?

BlueScope calls it an elegant, strong blue that recalls ocean depths and distant ranges. From the street it tends to read as navy. Screens make blues look brighter than they are, so judge it from a real sheet outside.

For a coastal look, BlueScope suggests beige slimline brick and pale grey concrete; for an industrial one, red brick and dark granite. Its palettes pair Deep Ocean with Dover White on Queenslanders and beach houses, or use it as the trim on a Bluegum roof.

Can you get Deep Ocean near the surf?

How hot does it run?

At 0.74, Deep Ocean has the highest published solar absorptance in the core range apart from Night Sky. That rates as dark under all the thresholds BlueScope publishes, and a new home in zones 1 to 5 would need the 7 star NatHERS pathway. In a hot, humid climate, a dark roof leans hard on the insulation and ventilation below it.

Tanks and trims

BlueScope lists Deep Ocean for water tanks, walls and gutters as well as roofs, so a tank or garage door can pick up the roof colour. On a lighter roof, Deep Ocean gutters and fascia give a coastal accent without the heat of a blue roof.

If you've set your heart on blue

We'd only choose a Deep Ocean roof if you really love it, because it's bold and it runs hot. If you do, pair it with white trims the way BlueScope suggests, and if you're between 100 and 200 m from the surf, ask the supplier about Ultra before anything else. We aren't affiliated with BlueScope, owner of the Colorbond trademark.

Questions

Straight answers.

Is Deep Ocean good for a Queenslander?
BlueScope specifically suggests Deep Ocean with Dover White for Queenslander and coastal homes. In a hot climate, weigh the look against the heat, because it's one of the darkest colours in the range.
Is Deep Ocean darker than Ironstone?
On BlueScope's figures it absorbs a touch more, 0.74 against 0.73. Ironstone is a blue-grey; Deep Ocean is a much stronger blue.
