Bunbury's gutter calendar
May and June storms
The 2005 tornado came on 16 May, the 2024 tornado on 10 May, and the next storm on 1 and 2 June 2024. Gutters full of autumn leaves overflow in that kind of rain and wind, and debris blown off the roof adds to the load.
Then the wet months
June averages 134.5 mm, July 145.5 mm and August 118.2 mm. A gutter that's still blocked going into winter spills water over fascias and into eaves for three months straight.
A summer clean on mapped land
In WA, bushfire-prone areas include bush plus a 100 m buffer, and if the map covers even a small part of your block, the whole property counts. Dry leaves in a gutter are easy fuel for embers, so a clean in late spring is worth it there.
Check for storm damage first
If your area was hit by a storm, a gutter can be bent or pulled loose as well as full. A good cleaner will tell you, with photos, before the next rain proves it.
What a clean should include
All the leaves and sludge out by hand and bagged, downpipes flushed so you know they run, and a check of brackets, joints and rust. If something is beyond a clean, like a rusted-through run or a downpipe crushed in a storm, that's a gutter replacement in Bunbury job.
Our national page on gutter cleaning covers how often most homes need it.
What's safe to do yourself
You can
- Clear a single-storey gutter from a ladder on firm, level ground, if you're comfortable at height
- Hose out downpipes from below
- Pick up fallen branches and debris after a storm, at ground level
- Keep trees trimmed back from the roof
Leave to a roofer
- Two-storey homes and awkward access
- Anything that means walking on the roof
- Gutters bent, pulled loose or rusted through
- Older roofs that might be asbestos cement
Ask before you book
- Is flushing the downpipes part of the price?
- Will you take the leaves away?
- Can you check for storm damage and send photos?
- Can you come in April, before the storm season?
- Are you insured to work at height?
What we'd do
We'd book the main clean for April, so the gutters are clear before the May fronts and the June rain. On bushfire-mapped land, we'd add a second clean in late spring. And after any big storm, we'd have a quick look from the ground for bent or sagging gutters before assuming they're just full.

Tell us the job and your postcode. We match it with a Find My Roofer certified roofer who specialises in that kind of work, and they call you to quote. Your number goes to them alone.
